Pico Laser Tattoo Removal by Skin MD

Are you the not-so-proud owner of some regrettable ink and you are now considering tattoo removal? You are not alone. It doesn’t matter whether you no longer love the tattoo your 18-year-old self decided was a great idea or if the faded ink just doesn’t look as good as it used to, there are now options for tattoos to be removed from your body permanently.

Contrary to the old belief that light, colored ink was hard to remove, at Skin MD we have the technology to address all hues will now disappear—no matter your skin tone. (FYI: in days past, tattoo removal lasers had limitations and would solely be attracted toward dark colors, like black.) With our Enlighten laser by Cutera technology, we are now able to get out yellows and greens, which were previously the most stubborn.

What laser does Skin MD use for tattoo removal?

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The total number of treatments varies depending on the composition, depth, and color of the ink, as well as the size of your tattoo. You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions. During your free consultation and initial treatment, your Skin MD practitioner will determine with you the number of treatments needed for optimal results.

How does Enlighten Laser Tattoo Removal Differ from Other Options?

Enlighten features extremely short and high-power picosecond laser pulses, which efficiently and quickly break down the ink particles in tattoos. A picosecond is one-trillionth of a second and is 1,000 times shorter than the nanosecond pulses lasers currently utilize for tattoo removal. Picosecond laser pulses are clinically proven to remove tattoos more completely and in fewer treatment sessions than traditional laser methods.

As a best-in-class laser, Enlighten is more effective than Q-switched lasers and PicoSure by Cynosure. PicoSure was the first picosecond technology laser to launch, however, Enlighten has proven to offer more flexibility in targeting different ink colors and ink depths.

he biggest advantage the Enlighten laser has over other technologies is how it enables Skin MD medical professionals to use both picosecond and nanosecond technology, switching seamlessly between the two, so we can adapt to what is best for removing your individual tattoo.

  • 1064 nm: Best for black and other very dark colors, also better for darker skin types
  • 532 nm: Best choice for red, orange, many yellows and browns

The great news? With Enlighten at Skin MD for tattoo removal, you don’t have to choose one or the other, you get both!

FAQS

Why are multiple visits required for tattoo removal?

Tattoo ink is deposited deep into the skin. In order to reach all of the ink, multiple treatment sessions are needed for clearance. The depth, size, and color of the tattoo will also affect the number of treatments needed.

Will my tattoo completely disappear?

In many cases, yes. However, it is very important to know that some ink colors are more difficult to clear than others. Consult with the experts at Skin MD to ensure that your expectations will be met.

What Does the Procedure Feel Like?

Laser tattoo removal is generally reported to have a similar feeling to first receiving your tattoo. Some patients compare our tattoo removal to a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Topical or local anesthetics are always available to minimize any discomfort. Post-tattoo removal care often requires a bandage to be worn for 7-10 days and the skin will be red and irritated, again, similar to the process that occurred when first getting the tattoo.

Is there any Downtime Associated with tattoo removal?

Enlighten has no downtime; patients can return to their daily routine directly after treatment.
