That fateful day when you first catch a glimpse in the mirror of your thinning hair; what will your reaction be? Some of us immediately get angry, but it’s also easy to become depressed or anxious over hair loss. Especially when friends and family start mentioning your thinning hair. We understand that it can genuinely feel like you are in a state of grieving, that you may be reluctant to leave the house. And that when you do go out, you may constantly be fidgeting with your hair to ensure that no one notices.
Of course, there are those who simply just deny that hair loss could actually be happening to them. Maybe it was just the light hitting your hair in a weird angle that made it look thinner. Or, you can decide to put the blame squarely on your underactive hormones. Perhaps you’re right; no one will notice if you fluff it up a bit more, use thickening products, or comb it over carefully.
But here’s why none of these emotions should be your reaction. At Skin MD, with our proprietary hair regeneration and restoration procedure, you do not have to live with, resent, or even deny your hair loss anymore!
Does Skin MD Treat Both Men And Women For Hair Loss?
Absolutely! While women and men lose hair differently – men generally notice their hairline starts to recede beginning at the hairline towards the crown of their head. In contrast, women lose it more diffusely and from the center outward – they are both fantastic candidates for our stackable approach to hair restoration and regeneration. Women are often not good candidates for transplant surgery because their hair is thinning everywhere, so this new Skin MD process is a life-changing option for our female hair loss patients.
Our synergistic approach works for a variety of hair loss types, including:
- Male Pattern Hair Loss (Hereditary Androgenetic Alopecia)
- Female Pattern Hair Loss
- Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune skin disease
- Traction Alopecia from braids, weaves or wigs
Why Skin MD for hair regeneration or hair loss?
Dr. Paul Flashner, who has been a practicing physician since 1982 and has focused his work for over ten years on non-invasive facial and body aesthetics; has introduced a synergistic procedure that only Skin MD is offering in Massachusetts. This non-surgical hair restoration and regeneration process combines laser hair regeneration and scalp rejuvenation to:
- STOP any further hair loss
- STIMULATE, STRENGTHEN, and GROW your weaker (or miniaturized) hair
Each layer of this treatment has a very specific role in the hair restoration process.
In the Skin MD approach, we use a proprietary approach that will stimulate the scalp to grow hair when it is miniaturized and thinning. Our proprietary method that we have discovered has been known to sustain hair growth for 18-24 months versus the short-lived results of using alternative injections on its own.
Low-Level Laser Therapy via a take-home LaserCap, in addition to the injections, is the key to stopping further hair loss and, also, supports strengthening and regrowth of weaker hair follicles.
Skin MD’s hair restoration process is a stacked approach; in which we combine multiple aesthetic modalities to garner optimal results. Our doctors and medically-trained practitioners believe that identifying the synergy between two or more treatments is a much more effective method to treat any aesthetic challenge you may face. This methodology, based on our knowledge of the physiological reasons for hair loss, is far more likely to ensure that you are completely satisfied with how your hair (or body or face) looks and feels.
This is at the core of our mission here at Skin MD. Our goal is to provide you with unparalleled technology, coupled with medical knowledge and expertise that is second to none, to create transformational experiences and the happiest, most satisfied patients in Massachusetts.
However, it is up to you to take the initiative and stop your thinning hair in its tracks now. Why is it so important to act immediately? Because right now, your hair strands are getting smaller and smaller, but they are still alive! This is a critical crossroads for you because once the hair follicle dies; you will not be able to recover it. Unfortunately, once you are bald, this procedure will not work since the hair follicle life is gone.
Patients choose Skin MD to look, feel, and be their best, but also because we provide them with the most superior treatments in non-invasive aesthetic medicine today. Dr. Flashner and our team of highly experienced Registered Nurses and Aestheticians will do everything in their power to help you achieve your optimal results.
This includes offering our patients cutting edge alternatives that can bring about a dramatic hair transformation. It also means that we provide our patients with affordable payment options and interest-free financing through CareCredit for those eligible. Finally, our commitment to 100% patient satisfaction means that we will set realistic goals so that you get what you expect from your services and that we will be your partner on your journey to look, feel and be your best.
What Should I Know About Hair Growth?
Every hair follicle produces hair in a three-stage cycle that repeats over time. The first stage of this cycle is active growth, known as the Anagen phase. The intermediate stage is the Catagen phase. And, the third stage is the resting Telogen phase.
Each hair follicle continually undergoes and repeats the cycle of hair growth, independently. And, at any given point in time, most of the hair on your head is in the active growing Anagen phase, which lasts on average from two to six years. While the active stage of hair growth is the longest in duration, the Catagen intermediate phase is the shortest, lasting approximately two to three weeks.
Finally, it is during the resting third of the cycle, the Telogen phase, when a new Anagen hair pushes out the hair currently in the follicle. This phase typically has a duration of three to four months. It is the Telogen hairs that you see when they come off into your brush or comb.
When an average, healthy individual reaches physical maturity, at or around the end of adolescence, he or she will have between 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on the head. Under normal conditions, the average person will “lose” or shed approximately 100 Telogen hairs per day and grow 100 Anagen hairs per day.
Baldness or hair thinning occurs as the normal growth stage slows. As most individuals get older, the percentage of hairs in the resting stage (Telogen phase) increases, while less hair remains in the active growth Anagen phase. Hair follicles may also produce a thinner, less pigmented hair over time.
Why Am I Losing My Hair?
Hair loss affects millions of men and women worldwide. The most common form of hair loss in both men and women is androgenetic alopecia, wherein there is an overproduction of testosterone that leads to markedly high levels of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a byproduct of testosterone. This subsequently results in disease of the scalp and an excessive amount of oil, which strangulates the hair follicle and eventually kills it.
The inheritance pattern of androgenetic alopecia is unclear because many genetic and environmental factors are likely to be involved; however, this condition tends to cluster in families, and having a close relative with patterned hair loss appears to be a risk factor for developing the condition. Also, baldness can be caused by other factors, including an autoimmune disorder called alopecia areata, a fungal infection, traumatic damage caused by actions such as compulsive pulling, or resulting from chemotherapy or nutritional deficiencies.
What About Using Propecia Or Minoxidil?
For men only, medicines like Propecia and Minoxidil may be prescribed by your Doctor. However, it’s essential to know that the primary goal of these products is to treat male pattern hair loss by reducing your levels of DHT. This should raise an warning flag for any man because it means that the same pill you are taking to improve your head of hair to feel, look and be your best, is also designed to lower your testosterone levels.
As a result, side effects can include impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm; abnormal ejaculation; swelling in your hands or feet; swelling or tenderness in your breasts; dizziness, weakness; feeling like you might pass out; headache; runny nose; or skin rash. Furthermore, the sexual side effects of these medications may continue after you stop taking this medication. We are confident these are not the results you are hoping for from restoring and re-growing your hair, right? Conversely, Skin MD’s approach offers is a safe and painless procedure with no side effects!
How Will I Know If Skin MD’s Hair Restoration Treatment Is Working?
At the start of your hair restoration and regeneration process, Dr. Flashner will establish your Hair Mass Index (HMI), which is a single number that precisely combines hair density and hair quality for a quick, non-invasive method of tracking hair loss and hair regrowth. Sometimes patients are alarmed to learn that their hair loss is much more than it appeared to be – that’s because small changes in hair caliber or hair thickness are not always visible to the naked eye. Unfortunately, by the time you notice your thinning hair, you may already have suffered significant hair loss.
This is why, at the first sign of a brush, comb, sink, or bathtub full of hairs, you should contact us! After the doctor records your first HMI reading, he will perform measurements every few months, depending on your situation, to assess your hair’s health and response to treatment.
