At Skin MD, we’re proud to have a team of dedicated professionals who not only excel in their work but also bring a wealth of passion, energy, and care to their roles. Leading by example for our med staff and clinical teams is our Medical Director, Danielle Shanley, MD. As a board-certified family medicine physician, she is an integral part of our practice offering a full range of aesthetic services, non-invasive body and face sculpting procedures while also overseeing our weight loss and hormone replacement programs. Dr. Shanley’s role at Skin MD is a big one…but there is so much more to this dynamic woman than her life within our clinics.
Dr. Shanley moved from upstate New York to Boston in 2015 for her residency at Tufts/Harvard. Nearly a decade later, Boston is home, and she has fallen in love with New England’s charm.
Dr. Shanley also understands the importance of continuity in care. With Dr. Flashner, the Skin MD founder, recently announcing he is stepping away from patient care and transferring his patients to Dr. Shanley, she wants to reassure them that they are in great hands. We sat down with Dr. Shanley to get you an inside look at who she is inside and outside of Skin MD!
Q: How do you balance being a medical professional, a wife, and a mother of two?
A: Each day can feel like a juggling act! I prioritize self-care to be the best mom/doctor/wife I can be. The small things that make the biggest difference are prioritizing sleep and waking up before my household to work out and drink coffee alone. I also prioritize quality family time. My husband and I have a babysitter and date night every Friday and we plan weekend adventures with the boys!
Q: How do you manage to find time for it all and how do you keep your sanity!?
A: There truly aren’t enough hours in the day….I wake up at 5am to exercise and that makes a big difference! I live by my Apple Calendar. I always have a trip planned to look forward to. Lastly, I have a lot of support from my family.
Q: You have two sons. How old are your boys?
A: They are 2 and 4 years old!
Q: What activities are they involved with?
A: They are preschool age, so they’re not involved in formal extracurricular activities yet. We live in South Boston and the city is our backyard! We spend our time exploring parks and museums in Boston and getting together with friends!
Q: Do you have any pets at home?
A: No pets. My kids are enough responsibility!
Q: You like to travel – what are some of your favorite places to visit?
A: Aruba is my favorite because my husband and I got married there, and now we go back each year for our anniversary! Outside of beach vacations I love exploring countries with different cultures. Some favorite trips have been Costa Rica, Columbia, Paris, and Japan.
Q: You’re from upstate New York but live in New England. How long have you been here and what do you like about New England?
A: I moved to Boston for residency at Tufts/Harvard in 2015 and never left! I’ve been here for almost 10 years now.
Q: Is there anything you miss from back home?
A: The Dewitt Wegmans – IYKYK! No traffic. My parents.
Q: Education? Credentials?
A: I completed undergrad Boston University and got my B.A. in biology and pre-med. For med school, I went to SUNY Upstate Medical University. Then, I did my residency at Tufts Family Medicine. I’m a board-certified family medicine physician!
Q: Every service you perform? Favorite service to perform?
A: So many! FaceTite, BodyTite, Aveli, Dysport, fillers, weight loss consultations, general aesthetic consultations, among other treatments. My favorite service is FaceTite! I love the significant and instant results! I also enjoy seeing new patient consultations and coming up with a customized treatment plan.
Q: Say something to Dr. Flashner’s patients, who are looking for a new Skin MD provider!
A: I know many of you have seen Dr. Flashner for years. I want to assure you that I trained under him, and I’m here to keep that same level of care and trust moving forward. I really look forward to getting to know you and working together to make sure you look and feel your best!
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Skin MD?
A: I love helping patients feel confident about themselves, developing relationships with patients over time, and our office culture! I enjoy catching up with and working with our staff, being the medical point of contact and educating/developing our medical staff.
