A Beauty Lover’s Guide to Post Dysport Skincare

Along with Botox, Dysport is one of the most well-known and popularly used medical aesthetic products across the globe.

Along with Botox, Dysport is one of the most well-known and popularly used medical aesthetic products across the globe. Both products are commonly used to smooth out facial wrinkles, especially those in the forehead, between the eyes and ‘crow’s feet.’

Both products are reasonably straightforward to administer with zero downtime, which is a tremendous advantage, especially for busy bees who can’t afford to spend too much time recovering at home.

However, there’s plenty of Dysport aftercare advice, along with tips and tricks to get the most out of your beauty injections. For the best results, please keep reading for our aftercare advice.

What Is Dysport?

First, let’s answer the question, ‘what is Dysport?’. Dysport is a product that reduces the look of lines that mainly affect the glabella, which is the area of skin between your eyebrows. These lines extend vertically toward the forehead and can be noticeable when someone frowns.

Glabella lines are naturally occurring, but with age, they can become more noticeable when someone is relaxing and frowning. That’s because, with time, our skin loses collagen, which are the protein fibers responsible for elasticity.

It’s essential to know that Dysport is only recommended for people who either moderate or severe cases of glabella wrinkles. If you have mild glabella lines, Dysport isn’t suitable for you. If you’re not sure if your glabella lines are mild, moderate, or severe, your dermatologist will be able to help you tell the difference.

If you’re a suitable candidate for Dysport, the whole procedure will be done at your doctor’s office. No hospitalization or recovery period is required, and you can leave as soon as the process finishes.

Before you receive the Dysport injections, your doctor will apply a mild anesthetic. This helps to reduce any pain during the treatment. For frown lines, doctors usually inject 0.05 milliliters each time in up to five doses around your eyebrows and forehead.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Before we go through our Dysport aftercare advice, we’ll cover the pre-treatment instructions.

To prevent bruising, it’s essential to avoid anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications for two weeks before your Dysport treatment. This includes omega 3, fish oil, aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, St John’s Wort vitamin E, and many herbal supplements.

Patients should also avoid consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to Dysport treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood, increasing the risks of bruising.

If you’re planning Dysport treatment for a special occasion, such as a wedding or vacation, be sure to schedule your appointment at least two weeks before. Results from Dysport injections take approximately 10 to 14 days to appear. Plus, any bruising or swelling may arise during that period.

If you’re susceptible to cold sores, be sure to let your doctor know. They may decide to give you an anti-viral medication before treatment.

On the day of your appointment, arrive without makeup, and be sure to have a substantial meal with plenty of water before treatment. This reduces the likelihood of lightheadedness during treatment.

If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant, you aren’t a suitable candidate for Dysport injections.

Aftercare Advice

After the treatment, try to exercise your facial muscles for the first 30 minutes following treatment. Keep frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting to help the Dysport work into your muscles. And don’t worry, it won’t negatively impact your treatment in any way.

Be careful not to rub or massage the treated areas of your face for four hours following treatment. It would be best if you also avoid strenuous exercise, facials, and saunas for four hours after treatment. This helps to reduce the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore minimizing the risk of bruising.

Avoid lying down for four hours after treatment. This prevents the risk of pressure on the treated facial areas from your pillow. It also avoids the risk of the treated area being rubbed accidentally.

However, feel free to shower and continue most other daily activities as usual.

Results of your Dysport treatment can take up to 14 days for full effect. Be sure to wait up to 14 days to evaluate the results from your Dysport treatment.

Enhancing Results

While the actual units of Dysport used vary from individual to individual, typically less is more. This is especially so for younger patients. The correct amount of Dysport will be discussed by you and your doctor.

For most patients, the advantages of Dysport injections can be enhanced by using a medical-grade skincare routine. Products packed full of vitamin-C can strengthen the skin and boost laxity and texture. Or, the use of Tretinoin or Retin-A helps to rebuild cells in the skin’s epidermis or top layer.

With time, Tretinoin can strengthen the skin, improving firmness and resiliency.

Also, remember that most skin damage, including aging, wrinkles, dark spots, and hyper-pigmentation, results from sun damage. Wearing sunscreen daily is essential for maintaining the appearance and health of your skin.

Try using a sunscreen with an SPF 45 or greater and reapply every four hours after sun exposure.
