3 Scary Secrets of Cellulite

3 Scary Secrets of Cellulite

We’re revealing three hidden truths behind Cellulite and offering the ultimate guide to understanding and treating it.

It may be “spooky season”, but the truth is, there are very few things scarier than aging. As we get older, we tend to start noticing the slight differences in our skin. Maybe you see a new wrinkle in your forehead, a scar from a breakout, or just a general dullness in your skin over time. We’re so used to blaming ourselves for not taking better care of ourselves when we were younger. But, what if we told you that there is one specific skin concern that is completely out of your control? Cellulite.

You may be accustomed to avoiding wearing your favorite skirts, shorts, and dresses. You could be so used to avoiding the beach or pool in the summertime. Cellulite was all tricks and no treats, until now.  We’re revealing three hidden truths behind this concern.

1. Cellulite is not your fault.

There are several reasons why cellulite occurs that are simply out of your control. A huge factor, if not the biggest one, is genetics. If your family members have it, you are more likely to have it yourself. In fact, cellulite is considered an inherited condition. People of all different body types, weights, fitness levels, and diets have it. Other causes include age, hormones, and skin structure. It’s time to take the blame and shame away from your personal choices. You are not the cause of your cellulite.

2. Cellulite is not fat.

Cellulite is NOT fat and is retained differently by your body than fat tissue. Excess fat on the body is accumulated by nutrients that the body does not use. While there is no distinct cause behind it, we know that it happens when the fibers that tether your skin to your muscles push your fat cells against the skin. These fibers are called septa. Septa shrinks or stiffens over time. When the septa bands form underneath the skin and pull the skin downwards, and the fat cells pull upwards, this creates the infamous dimpling effect that is cellulite.

3. Diet and exercise will not get rid of it completely.

Regular exercise and a healthy diet can reduce the appearance of cellulite. But, no matter how much exercise you do, or how well you eat, you can still get it. We see this concern in all kinds of body types. The formation of it is not a sign that you need to lose weight or drastically change your diet to get rid of it. Although it may slightly reduce it, exercise will not eliminate the dimpling or skin laxity. You will still have dimples and laxity on your glutes and thighs, even after losing weight and changing your lifestyle.

Ways To Treat Cellulite

There are several at-home and professional treatments, each with pros and cons. You may be already doing some of these things. Or, maybe you’re curious about how to remove it once and for all?

Just because you have it and it’s familiar to you and nothing to be ashamed of doesn’t mean you can’t get rid of it.
