How does Dysport® work?
Dysport® uses a purified form of botulinum toxin to temporarily block nerve signals in targeted muscles. When injected into specific facial muscles, Dysport® interferes with the muscle contractions that lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. By causing these muscles to relax, Dysport® effectively smoothes the appearance of wrinkles, especially those associated with facial expressions like frowning or squinting.
What areas can Dysport® treat?
Dysport® is commonly used to address forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows. The results are generally visible within a few days and can last for several months, providing individuals with a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance.
Forehead Lines (Glabellar Lines): These horizontal creases are some of the first and most common wrinkles that people tend to get. Dysport® can reduce the appearance of these dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the underlying facial muscles.
Crow’s Feet or Laugh Lines: As you enter your late 20s or early 30s, these unsightly lines begin to appear in the outer corners of your eyes.
Bunny Lines: When you scrunch your nose, bunny lines are the fine lines that appear. If you find bunny lines bothersome, Dysport® can assist in reducing and smooth out these tiny creases.
Eyebrows: Dysport® is an excellent solution for those with “hooded” eyelids or “deep-set” eyes. Properly placed injections just above the brow will relax wrinkles, lift your lids and give you a well-rested look.
Perioral Lines: As we age, the upper lip loses volume. Adding a small amount of Dysport® just above your upper lip can go a long way in giving lips a fuller look. Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweat): Neurotoxin treatments of either Dysport® or BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce overactive sweat glands in your underarms, hands and feet by blocking the nerves responsible. When your nerves can’t signal your sweat glands, you don’t sweat in the specific area where it’s been injected. Kind of magical, really!
Downturned Mouth: As we age, the corners of your mouth get pulled down by gravity. We can help turn that frown upside down and gently raise the corners of your mouth by relaxing the underlying muscles.
Jawline: Over time your jawline can become less and less defined. Dysport can help by shrinking the masseter muscle along your jawline and narrowing the appearance of your jawline, giving a more defined and sculpted look.
Clenching or Grinding Teeth: If you suffer facial pain from jaw tension, Dysport® can deliver a targeted treatment to relax the masseter and other muscles that control your jaw.
“Orange Peel” or Pebbly Chin: If you are looking to correct a dimply chin, Dysport® can help by reducing laxity and smoothing out the orange peel appearance.
Nefertiti Lift (Neck Bands): Named after the Egyptian queen with a famously lovely jawline, a Nefertiti Lift is a non-invasive procedure wherein tiny amounts of Dysport® (or BOTOX® Cosmetic) is injected into the muscles in your neck – specifically the ones that create a downward pull on your jawline. When your neck bands are no longer pulling your features down, the muscles on the upper face get a sort of mini-lift.

What does an injectable treatment involve?
Your treatment will be performed by either Dr. Flashner or one of our highly qualified Registered Nurse injectors. Regardless of which master injector of our medical staff performs your treatment, you can be confident that Dr. Flashner oversees every patient’s chart.
Pre-injection, your skin will be cleansed, and an ice pack applied to numb the area where the injections will be given.
You will be injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. The neurotoxins in the injectable go to work by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles so that the injected muscle cannot contract, which makes the wrinkles relax and soften.
The number of injections needed depends on many factors, including the specific area being treated and whether you are being treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®. The injections usually take about 10 to 15 minutes. Most patients find the treatment to be virtually pain-free and report that it feels like a pinch.
Post-injection, there is little to no downtime. Some people do experience bruising or other minor local side effects, but you should be able to resume your normal daily activities right after your procedure.
What results can I expect from Dysport®?
Our patients get excellent results and visible smoothing for lines around the eyes, mouth, forehead, and between the brows. At your Skin MD consultation, we will give you honest feedback on what we believe BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can do for your wrinkles and to ensure proper expectations are set.
The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® should last anywhere from three to six months. Over time, the muscle action gradually returns, and the lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear; however, if you continue on a consistent treatment schedule, the lines and wrinkles often appear less and less severe because the muscles are being trained to relax.
