How Does Sun Damage Occur?
Sun damage happens when our skin becomes overexposed to harmful UV rays. These rays can be divided into two primary categories, UVA and UVB. UVA rays have long wavelengths and penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer. Prolonged exposure to these rays can cause advanced aging and the appearance of sunspots. UVB rays are shorter in length but can still cause a significant amount of damage. These rays burn the top layers of your skin and play a big role in the development of more complicated issues like skin cancer.
What Are the Signs?
Common signs of sun-damaged skin include the appearance of age spots, brown spots, wrinkles, rough skin texture, lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. In most cases, exposure to the sun doesn’t cause major health risks, but these skin concerns can make us feel self-conscious. If you are unhappy with the look and feel of your skin and reverse sun damage, there is help available. At SkinMD, we offer several treatments to help you improve the look of your skin.

Sun Damage Treatments in Massachusetts
Improve sun damage issues here at SkinMD. We offer a range of treatments designed to give you the skin you want.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels use a custom chemical solution that removes the top layers of the skin, revealing brighter, smoother, more even, and healthier skin underneath. The chemicals used can include everything from glycolic acid and lactic acid to salicylic acid.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL Therapy/Photodynamic Therapy)
IPL addresses sun damage by using targeted light pulses to heat and break down pigmented skin cells (like sunspots) and constrict damaged blood vessels, which are then cleared away by the body’s natural processes. The heat energy also stimulates collagen production and kickstarts the skin’s natural healing process, which helps to improve skin texture and sagging skin and reduce fine lines over time.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser treatments can also be highly effective on sun damage and uneven pigmentation. By heating up and damaging the targeted skin cells, the treatment breaks down the unwanted pigment and the body naturally removes it, giving you a flawless complexion and enhancing you’re skin’s natural glow.
