SkinMD offers a myriad of chemical peels that can be customized to your unique skin care issues and aesthetic goals.  We offer two diverse product lines for chemical peels, including SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica, which are both advanced and well-trusted product lines that are backed by science.

Skin Medica-Illuminating Peel

The Illuminating Peel is a light peel, making it ideal for those seeking gentle skin rejuvenation. This extremely successful peel has a milder effect that increases the skin’s glow and radiance. With this in mind, the procedure is perfect for first-time chemical peel patients or anyone looking for a non-invasive option with minimal downtime. Enjoy maximal rejuvenating benefits with little to no visible peeling or irritation. On the positive side, Illuminating Peel can be used for all skin types. Not to mention, vibrant, radiant-looking skin will show hours after just one Illuminating Peel.

Skin Medica-Revitalizing Peel

The Revitalizing Peel is a powerful peel that is safe and has little to no downtime or irritation. Moreover, this peel is effective for all skin types and addresses hyperpigmentation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, and photodamage.

Skin Medica-Rejuvenating Peel

The Rejuvenating Peel is one of our stronger peels; it is primarily used only on certain skin types or for those who have become tolerant of other peels. Also, the Rejuvenating Peel is effective for treating acne scars, sun damage, melasma, and pigment changes.

SkinCeuticals-Pigment Balancing

SkinCeuticals clinical brightening peel that dramatically improves hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. Using highly active lightening agents, purifying boosters along with 40% glycolic acid and 10% citric acid that leave a luminous and dewy after effect. Best results  are seen with 4-6 treatments at 2-4 weeks apart.

SkinCeuticals – Smart TCA Peel

The Smart TCA Peel is part of the family of TCA peels, a type of medium chemical peel known for their effectiveness in improving skin tone and texture. This TCA Peel allows SkinMD patients to reduce the appearance of fine lines and dark spots while achieving an overall improvement in the tone and texture of the skin, with minimal downtime. This truly ‘smart’ peel is ideal for all skin types and most skin tones.

SkinCeuticals – Advanced Corrective Peel

The SkinCeuticals Advanced Corrective Peel is known to dramatically diminish the appearance of discoloration while improving the skin’s texture and refining enlarged pores.

SkinCeuticals Micropeel – Citric and Glycolic Acid

This SkinCeuticals peel can treat all skin types, including photo aging, rosacea, and sensitive skin types. This multi-step clinical treatment will combine a manual exfoliation that safely and efficiently removes surface debris and damaged skin cells, revealing healthier skin underneath, chemical exfoliation to treat pigment and texture, followed by cryogenic therapy to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, laxity, dullness, and skin imperfections. This peel can be customized for skin sensitivity and skin type. For optimal results, two series of 4-6 procedures per year are often recommended.

Micropeel Plus – Salicylic and Glycolic Acid

This chemical peel combines two of our favorite acids: salicylic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid, and glycolic acid. The Micropeel Plus peel helps reduce acne blemishes and PIH from acne lesions, improve skin tone, and increase radiance. Salicylic acid, as a beta-hydroxy acid, can address and correct environmental damage and breakouts, while glycolic acid will aid in the improvement of texture and uneven skin tone.

SkinCeuticals – Micropeel for Sensitive Skin

Formulated with niacin, lactic acid—an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates and decongests even the most sensitive skin types—and usnic acid to balance moisture levels. This clinical procedure provides SkinMD medical estheticians with the ability to treat any skin type with highly effective ingredients that enable real results.

SkinCeuticals – AHA and BHA Peels – commonly known as the “Lunch Time Peel”

Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Peels use alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) as peeling agents in these peels, and will always have their place in solid skincare regimens, having historically played a significant role in superficial skin resurfacing. We are able to brighten complexions with little to no downtime and provide a feeling of clean and revived skin texture. Effective and safe, these peels are great for before a big event or just monthly maintenance. AHA and BHA peels can balance your skin and trigger collagen and elastin reformation.

SkinCeuticals – Gel Peel GL

This gel peel utilizes alpha hydroxy acids, specifically glycolic and lactic acid, to improve hydration, stimulate collagen synthesis and elastin fibers in the dermis, encourage cell renewal, and improve the appearance of skin discolorations. It is less irritating than a pure Glycolic peel.

Glycolic Acid 20% and Lactic Acid 10%, both alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) derived from natural sources, work together to exfoliate the skin while reducing irritation and dryness. Glycolic acid’s molecular structure enables it to penetrate more quickly and deeply than other AHAs to perform at all levels of the skin. Lactic acid is an effective yet gentle AHA that increases moisture levels by stimulating the production of glycosaminoglycans. By accelerating the cell renewal process, stimulating collagen synthesis, and improving elastin fibers in the dermis, this light chemical peel revitalizes photo-damaged skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Recovery and Aftercare

Proper recovery and aftercare are essential steps in achieving the best results from your chemical peel. The type of chemical peel you receive, whether it’s a light chemical peel, medium peel, or deep chemical peel, will determine the level of aftercare your skin needs. After a chemical peel procedure, it’s normal to experience some redness, mild irritation, and increased sensitivity as your skin heals and new skin cells emerge.

For light chemical peels, recovery is usually quick, with minimal downtime. You may notice some flaking or mild peeling as dead skin cells are shed, revealing smoother, more radiant skin underneath. Medium peels and deeper peels, such as those using trichloroacetic acid or phenol, may require a longer recovery period, with more noticeable redness, swelling, and peeling that can last up to two weeks.

No matter the type of chemical peel, protecting your treated skin from sun exposure is crucial. Your skin will be more vulnerable to UV rays, so it’s important to avoid direct sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and seeking shade can further protect your healing skin.

During the recovery process, stick to gentle skincare products; avoid harsh exfoliants, retinoic acid, or any products that could irritate sensitive skin. Keep your skin moisturized and follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by your SkinMD medical esthetician. If you experience any unusual symptoms, such as persistent redness, swelling, or signs of infection, contact your provider promptly.

By following these aftercare guidelines, you’ll help your skin heal properly and maximize the benefits of your chemical peel, achieving a smoother, more even skin texture and a refreshed appearance.

Chemical Peel FAQs

  • What are Chemical Peels?

Advanced skincare treatments are only performed by clinically trained estheticians. Chemical peels work by exfoliating the skin’s surface to smooth your skin texture, reducing the appearance of imperfections, and restoring and balancing skin health. Chemical peels are most effective at stimulating cell turnover and improving the overall appearance of your skin.

  • What’s the difference between a Chemical Peel and a Laser treatment?

Chemical peels use a series of ingredients to remove the pigmentation of the skin, but also contain ingredients to prevent future pigmentation. Laser treatments address and remove the pigmentation that you have. Chemical peels remove pigmentation and help prevent the pigmentation from coming back. This is why SkinMD practitioners may recommend laser treatments in conjunction with a series of chemical peels.

Both Laser treatments and chemical peels can be an integral part of achieving and maintaining healthy skin. At SkinMD, we are dedicated to identifying the best treatment protocols to get you to where you want to be!

  • What type of Chemical Peel is right for me?

Chemical peels are categorized by how deeply they penetrate the skin: superficial, medium, or deep. The type and depth of chemical peel administered will depend on your skin type, concern, skin tone, and skincare habits.

The best way to identify what chemical peel is right for you is to schedule a complimentary consultation at SkinMD. There are so many choices out there, and there is no ‘1 size fits all’. At SkinMD, we will assess your skin, listen to your concerns, and present a variety of options that are customized and personalized to your desires, goals, and budget.

  • What does a Chemical Peel treatment feel like?

Even a mild, superficial chemical peel may produce a tingling sensation on your skin. Typically, this mild discomfort will subside once the chemical peel solution has been neutralized. Deeper peels can feel quite active and may require the application of a numbing cream beforehand.

A superficial peel can produce some redness, similar to a mild sunburn, which may last 3 to 5 days. The more intense medium and deep peels will result in noticeable redness, swelling, blistering (in the case of deep peels), and/or peeling for 7 to 14 days.

Immediately after a chemical peel, the skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight. It is extremely important to follow the at-home care instructions you will receive from your SkinMD medical esthetician. Wearing sunscreen is absolutely necessary and make sure to apply it daily. Avoid going out into the sun or try to keep it to a minimum while you are healing. But honestly, are you surprised that we are recommending sunscreen?? Everyone should wear it. Every day. After a chemical peel, consider wearing sunscreen as simply non-negotiable.
